Course Description: This course on US-American dramatic texts is devised as a seminar format that introduces to and deepens insight into 20th/21st century American drama. Its syllabus provides a historical survey of US-American dramatic literary tradition with a critical thematic focus on gender and family. We will discuss constructions of masculinity and femininity as well as shifting notions of heteronormativity and the ideal of the middle-class family. Due to its close engagement with literary texts, the seminar offers a space to hone your skills for formal dramatic analysis and interpretation.
