course content/topics:
As part of a blocked seminar, the students get a compact introduction to the topic. In addition, they look for a social challenge in teams, which they wish to work on for the duration of the semester. The work on these challenges results in a project report, which is based on the social reporting standard.

In developing the project idea, the students are on the one hand supported through theme-centred workshops and reflective sessions as part of the accompanying project seminar, on the other hand an online seminar that is oriented towards the development process enables the students to acquire the knowledge they need themselves.

In the course of the project seminar “Changemaker” students develop a project outline for the foundation of a social enterprise. At the beginning of the semester, they participate in a “social innovation camp” which introduces the topic in a two-day workshop and aims at the realization of the first steps in the implementation of the student teams’ business ideas. Later in the semester, the students acquire the knowledge needed for successful project implementation themselves through an online seminar. Within ten chapters of the seminar, students get acquainted with the theoretical concepts and models as well as practical methods and instruments. They are taught how to determine the exact need of a target group, how to plan the project activities, calculate costs and set up a realistic schedule. In addition, they develop strategies to finance their projects and communicate them effectively.

Furthermore, there are theme-centred workshops aiming to deepen the knowledge, as well as mandatory meetings that bring together all teams to exchange their experiences and report on their progress. During each of these meetings, the teams receive ungraded feedback by the lecturer. Every second week, the project teams can make use of an additional online consultation hour.

At the very end of the module, the students hand in their project reports as part of the examination, as well as a video which presents their project ideas as a pitch. The evaluation of both documents is based on the evaluation criteria of the “yooweedoo” competition. The founding teams can hand in their project outlines for participation in the aforementioned competition, regardless of the grading process.
