Learning objectives:
The Students
• acquire in-depth knowledge and concepts of media-ethical analysis
• are able to deal with media-ethical theories and terminologies in a deeper and critical way
• understand models for ethical analysis, can apply them and use them to develop independent ideas and concepts for solving media ethical challenges
• train their ethical judgement using selected examples and can expand their own argumentation behaviour in a critical-reflective manner
• can critically reflect and competently evaluate media-ethical discourses
• observe their own media behaviour and reflect on it with a view to fundamental value issues and potential personal and social effects
• are given tools to understand the ethical implications of their future professional context and can use these tools.
Content/topics:
The students test, explore and explain current media ethical questions in digital as well as in "classical" media in guided small projects. Based on practical examples, different media-ethical concepts and perspectives are discussed. In addition to constructivist and discourse-ethical approaches, the Students are also familiar with traditional approaches such as the Dovifat ethics of mind approach or the Boventer ethics of responsibility concept. With the Potter Box, course participants develop a proven method for analysis and decision making in practice cases that are challenging in terms of media ethics. A series of examples will also be used to discuss central questions of media ethics. The topics addressed include "media and violence", "media and quality" and "media and truth".
A more in-depth examination of the course contents takes place through reflection questions incorporated in the modules. Through numerous self-regulation tasks, pin boards, forums and opinion polls, students are actively involved in the course and have the opportunity to exchange ideas in the course community.
