This short course will introduce participants to stone lithography, covering the basics of preparing and This short course will introduce participants to stone lithography, covering the basics of preparing and printing from stone. Lithography has a reputation for being time-consuming and complicated, but this course will focus on the quick and direct technique of mark making through soap washes. Participants will have the opportunity to use this technique to prepare and print a stone with their own design, but also to work collaboratively with others to create a series of multi-coloured prints by combining and overlapping their prints with those of the other participants. This will shed light on the layered nature of multi-coloured prints, and could also be the basis for an exhibition in the university’s gallery space. Course partici-pants will not only learn lithographic technique, but the course will demonstrate one possible way of teaching a short lithography course that is quick and accessible to new printmakers. This course does not assume that participants have any previous experience, but it is also sui-table for those that already have some familiarity with lithography.
