Students have a critical media literacy and the ability to compare and analyze relevant text types and forms of conversation.
Content/topics:
The seminars focuses on topics in the various Anglophone linguistic and cultural areas, which are dealt with on media-mediated language

The Post-Truth Era – Problems and Possibilities of the Hyper-Mediated Discourse.

Summary: This course will explore various topics related to the so-called Post-Truth Era, which is characterized, in part, by “fake news” and “alternative facts”. What role do mainstream and social media play in determining how we think about what we think? The course will examine both the destructive as well as constructive ways in which new and traditional media convey information and the impacts these can have on our methods of communication.

Please note: The electronic Placement Test (about 30 min) will be held in KGE-007 on Tuesday 15 October 2019 from 09:00 to 12:00 am. You do not need to register for this test; the results will be announced immediately after the test. The registration deadline for courses is Tuesday 15 October 2019 (midnight). Please register only after the electronic Placement Test for the courses. The course participant lists will be hung on the black board in the lobby of the central library on Thursday 17 October 2019. The language centre English courses commence on Monday 21 October 2019.
