Sixteen-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg's recent visit to New York to address the United Nations and the publication of the latest UN report highlighting the harm that climate change is inflicting upon the Earth's oceans are only the latest alarms to be sounded about the effects of human activity on the natural environment. Despite such warnings and despite observable alterations in the natural world, a vacuum of leadership in addressing the crisis is evident, particularly in the United States. This current affairs course proposes to follow the developing state of the climate crisis and other environmental issues, along with associated policy debates, public-relations efforts, and activist and protest movements such as Extinction Rebellion and Fridays for Future, as reflected in English-language media.
