• acquire basic knowledge and terminology of digitalization ethics
• are able to analyse fundamental ethical challenges associated with digitisation
• analyse and evaluate practical examples from a media ethical perspective
• can outline the legal challenges associated with digitisation and identify grey areas
• explore the effects of digitisation on the provision of information and journalistic
reporting and assess the associated consequences for society as a whole
• analyse the ethical implications of their own actions in the digital space and take a
critical position.
course content/topics:
Keywords such as "Hate Speech", "Big Data", "Fake News" or "Filter Bubble" illustrate
how communication has changed in the digital age and what opportunities and
challenges digitality presents for our social coexistence. Nine modules approach the
topic from different perspectives and with different emphases.
Through numerous self-control tasks, pin boards, forums and opinion polls, course
participants are actively involved in the course and have the opportunity to exchange
information with the course community. The online course is supplemented by
face-to-face meetings at which ethical questions of digitality can be discussed on site.

Seminar and Blended Learning (2 SWS): The VHB-course "Introduction to the Ethics of
Digital Communication" is supplemented by classroom sessions.

Successful proof of performance, at least rated "sufficient": Development of a portfolio
(learning diary and reflection questions).
