- Students will recognize how new technologies – especially digitization and automation – will change the labor market.
- Students develop the ability to comprehend research on the labor-market effects of new technologies, which is also transferable to other topics.
- Students familiarize themselves with the methodology of empirical and theoretical labor-market research and are able to discuss these issues verbally.
- Students improve skills related to presenting and writing about scientific topics.
- Students will deepen their knowledge about labor markets and learn to carry over their existing and newly acquired knowledge to other fields.
course content/topics:
- The seminar deals with the analysis of the effects of modern technologies on the labor market. It will focus on what skills are still needed in today's increasingly digital and automated labor market and what the labor market of the future might look like.
- In addition, the seminar will critically discuss the statement "Technological progress leads to unemployment" and the automation potential of various occupations and tasks.
- The focus of the seminar will be a discussion of empirical studies.

In their term paper, students have to show that they are able to understand a scientific paper in terms of its core messages and its methodology (empirical and/or theoretical). It is expected that they can summarize these aspects in their own words in a clear and concise manner. Moreover, students have to be able to embed the scientific paper in a broader context.
