Content/topics:
The online course "Ethics of Digital Communication" analyzes ethical challenges of digitalization. Media-philosophical questions - such as the specific mediality of the Internet - serve as a starting point for an in-depth examination of one's own media behaviour and the influences of digital technologies on one's own life. On the basis of practical examples, basic concepts of media ethics such as "truth and veracity", "publicity and privacy" or "values and norms" will be discussed and transferred to the digital society. Current discourses, such as on the legal provisions of data protection or copyright law, are a central component of the course and are reflected, for example, in the context of various fundamental papers on the digital society.

An in-depth examination of the course contents is provided by reading chapters with integrated reflection questions, which illustrate the current scientific discourse on questions of the ethics of digitisation by means of examples. Through numerous self-control tasks, pin boards, forums and opinion polls, students are actively involved in the course and have the opportunity to exchange ideas with the course community. The online course will be accompanied by face-to-face events where students will be able to actively deepen and reflect on their acquired knowledge.
