Today, music workshops are happening all around us, in schools, community centres, day centres—a whole variety of venues—with people of all ages and backgrounds. In fact, community music is one of the striking success stories of the community arts movement. Who runs the workshops ? How do they learn how to do it? Where do the ideas come from ? We will consider issues of personal and community change, discuss the politics of participation and look at leadership. Musically we will make beats, sings songs, invent new pieces and songs.

About the Lecturer: Pete Moser (www.petemoser.com) is a composer, performer, producer and facilitator and was the founder and Artistic Director of More Music, one of the foremost community music charities in the UK (www.moremusic.org.uk). He has written scores for theatre, opera and dance projects as well as songs for occasions and large-scale choral and orchestral pieces. Pete is a multi-instrumentalist and teaches percussion, voice, brass and songwriting as well as the art of running workshops. He co-edited and wrote chapters in 'Community Music : A Handbook’, a book that is aimed at inspiring and empowering music leaders. Over 25 years, his work in Morecambe, a seaside resort in the North West of England, at More Music saw programmes involve thousands people of all ages in creative music making and performance. He is committed to creating opportunities for people from across the social spectrum to access music making that can transform their lives and has worked with Youth Music to change the way that Music Education Hubs approach music making. One project, the Long Walk, was a response to the Morecambe Bay tragedy of 2004 and initiated a 16 year development of community music practice in Hong Kong and mainland China. This has led to international work with the International Society of Music Education as well conference presentations and work in the HE sector in Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Germany. Pete was the Co Chair for the ISME Community Music Activity Seminar in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2018 and Co Chair of the APCMN Online Gatherings in 2020. He is the Fastest-One-Man-Band-In-The-World : www.fastestonemanband.com.

Die Seminarsprache ist Englisch.

Der Workshop ist für MA-Studierende eine Pflichtveranstaltung, für die sie sich nicht extra anmelden müssen. Für Studierende anderer Studiengänge (Lehramt und BA Angewandte Musikwissenschaft und Musikpädagogik) kann der Workshop im Rahmen des Moduls Musikpädagogik 'Spezial' besucht und angerechnet werden.
