By the end of the course, students will be able to:
• Identify major conservative ideological traditions in U.S. political thought
• Explain how these traditions have influenced foreign and security policy
• Analyze key U.S. foreign policy decisions through a conservative lens
• Compare different schools of conservative thought (e.g., realism vs. neo-conservatism)
• Critically engage with primary sources and academic literature
Inhalte/Themen:
This seminar explores the evolution and influence of conservative political thought on the foreign and security policy of the United States from the Cold War to the present day. The course will examine major ideological currents from classical conservatism and neo-conservatism to nationalist-populism and analyze their practical application through U.S. foreign policy doctrines, presidential administrations, and global conflicts. Emphasis will be placed on both the intellectual origins and institutional actors driving conservative strategic thinking.
