Learning objectives:
Acquisition of media-ethical technical and methodological competences which are necessary for professions in the context of media and education.
The Students
• acquire basic knowledge and concepts of media-ethical analysis
• understand models for ethical analysis and can apply them
• are able to analyse media-ethical problems
• train their ethical judgement using selected examples
• are able to reflect and competently evaluate media-ethical discourses
• receive tools to understand the ethical implications of their future professional context and can use these tools.
Content/topics:
This course deals with current questions of media ethics in both digital and "classical" media: from the DSGVO to prominent scandals such as the affair surrounding the Hitler diaries to the Böhmermann case and the (still) current accusations of the lie press, the course is devoted to the diverse ethical questions and challenges of the media world. From journalism to advertising and PR to entertainment formats on TV and digital media, the course focuses on the various fields of communication and discusses how media are ethically designed, disseminated and received in a responsible manner. After all, it is not only the media makers who are responsible for "the media", but also the media users, whose role is critically reflected upon.
A more in-depth examination of the course contents takes place through reflection questions incorporated in the modules. The course contents are prepared in a practical manner on the basis of concrete examples. Through numerous self-regulation tasks, pin boards, forums and opinion polls, students are actively involved in the course and have the opportunity to exchange ideas in the course community.
